Two dimensional fermions in four dimensional YM
Dirac fermions in the fundamental representation of SU(N) live on a two dimensional torus flatly embedded in R4. They interact with a four dimensional SU(N) Yang Mills vector potential preserving a global chiral symmetry at finite N . As the size of the torus in units of 1 ΛSU(N) is varied from small to large, the chiral symmetry gets spontaneously broken in the infinite N limit.

Motivated by the description of the graphene electronic structure in terms of the relativistic Dirac equation, a generalization to four dimensions yields a strictly local fermion action describing two species and possessing an exact chiral symmetry. This is the minimum number of species required by the well known “no-go” theorems. PACS numbers: 11.15.Ha, 11.30.Rd, 71.10.Fd, 71.20.-b

We investigate a 4D analog of 2D WZW theory. The theory turns out to have surprising finiteness properties and an infinite-dimensional current algebra symmetry. Some correlation functions are determined by this symmetry. One way to define the theory systematically proceeds by the quantization of moduli spaces of holomorphic vector bundles over algebraic surfaces. We outline how one can define v...

متن کاملCluster simulation of two-dimensional relativistic fermions
The (discrete) Gross-Neveu model is studied in a lattice realization with an N-component Majorana Wilson fermion field. It has an internal O(N) symmetry in addition to the euclidean lattice symmetries. The discrete chiral symmetry for vanishing mass is expected to emerge in the continuum limit only. The lattice theory is first recast in terms of two-valued bosonic link variables (dimers). In th...
